Duane Thomas Lewis

Duane Thomas Lewis, 83, passed away on July 29, 2023, at home with his wife by his side.
Duane was born June 8, 1940, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Vernon and Helen Lewis. He grew up and attended school in Michigan City, graduating from high school in 1958.

He enlisted in the Army after graduation and served three years as a military policeman in Italy. He served in law enforcement for 23 years after leaving the Army, working in Indiana and Wyoming. He was also a firearms instructor.

He grew up around horses and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He raised Brittany spaniel hunting dogs. In retirement, he enjoyed feeding the squirrels, spending time with his dogs and spending time in nature.

He met Judy Schwindt in the late 1990s, and they were married Oct. 12, 2010. They spent 26 wonderful years together, and enjoyed traveling, visiting family, eating out, walking the dogs and just spending time together.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Judy; children Vicki Schiller (Neil), Mark Lewis (Mary) and Rebecca Tacy (Levi); stepchildren Jeremy Schwindt (Melanie), Jason Schwindt, Jerad Schwindt; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister Darlene Goldman (Larry).

Military honors and interment of ashes will be held at Cheyenne National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends donate to a charity of your choice in Duane’s name.
