Barry Allen Nelson

January 6, 1944 — February 2, 2024

Barry was born in Lovingston, Montana on January 6, 1944, to Jessie (Lee) and Henry Ward Nelson, joining older brother Richard and Later Mary Ellen. His dad was killed when Barry was only six years old. His mother then married Leonard Vevik who helped Jessie raise her family. He attended school in Livingston and enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 17. He was stationed in Germany following boot camp and received an honorable discharge after serving his tour.
In January of 1963, he and Sherry Fuher were married and had two sons, Richard and Larry Nelson. They moved from Livingston to Tacoma, Washington where Barry learned the meat cutting trade, but suffers a serious hand injury. He then began the trade of pipefitting.
He and Sherry later divorced, and Barry relocated to Wyoming and worked in the oil field industry.
Barry loved to fish and tinker with mechanical objects and was quite handy to have around. He was befriended by Frand and Betty Miller and their daughters and family. Irene Martin has been an angel to Barry and our family, looking over him and tending to his every need, doctor’s appointments, cleaning his home, grocery shopping, you name it, she was there. We are very appreciative of everything the Miller family has done over the years for Barry.
Barry’s health deteriorated recently, and he spent many days in the carious VA facilities throughout Wyoming and Colorado. He passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, under VA Hospice care in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
He is survived by the Miller family; sister, Mary Ellen Kehler (St. Xavier, MT); nephews, Travis (Billings, MT), Kelly (Jill), Spencer (Rhea), Justin; nieces, Jessica and Madison all of St. Xavier as well as several first cousins on the Nelson side.
He was proceeded in death by his dad; mom; stepdad; grandpa, Bill Lee; grandma, Mollie Kenny; step-grandpa, Floyd Kenny; brother, Richard; brother-in-law, Dick Kehler, and many other relatives.
He will be buried with his mother, dad and brother, Richard in Livingston, Montana with a private family graveside service.
Many thanks to the Veterans Administration overall and the staff particularly in Cheyenne, WY, and most recently VA Hospice.
